How to Monetize Your Blog The Right Way

If you have a blog that gets a decent amount of traffic, you are strongly encouraged to monetize your blog to convert your visitors into money without any additional work. If you haven’t got your blog yet and wish to start one now, read a thorough guide about starting your own blog and making money with it. But for the sake of this article I will assume that you already have it and only want to know how to monetize a blog.

There are quite a lot of ways of monetization (better and worse), and I will introduce you to the top 5 methods used by most bloggers out there.

1. Pay per Click (PPC) Advertising

Pay per click advertising is probably used the most, and it involves placement of image and/or text ads on your site. You have probably seen websites with such advertising embedded into their layout in the form of images and blocks of three or four text links with short description. AdSense is your best option, but there are many other PPC advertising networks out there, such as Chitika or Yahoo Advertising.

2. Donations

Donations are but another way of monetizing your blog. You may be skeptical about the profitability of such option, but don’t judge before you try it yourself. If you have high-quality content (and you should), you can make a decent amount of money through donations.

People love quality content and there will always be those who will want to support you financially in the future. The more support you will receive, the more helpful tips you will be able to share with your readers, so it is a win-win situation for both parties involved. PayPal has a very simple donation feature you can implement with just a few clicks of a button.

3. Affiliate Marketing

Although affiliate marketing is third on the list, it might just be the best way to monetize your blog if you know your way around it. In short, affiliate marketing is a process of selling other people’s products and/or services. In return, you get a commission for every successful sale that is affiliated through your blog.

You may get as low as few percent on each sale or as high as 75% for every sale you make. Empower Network is the only program that I have seen so far that offers 100% commissions on every sale. And individual sales go as high as $1000. It is no wonder that many people make well over $30.000, $50.000 or even more than $100.000 a month with them. Amazon Associates, Commission Junction and ClickBank are few of the other very poplar affiliate networks that can help you monetize your blog.

It is best to directly promote products by writing an honest and detailed review of them. You may also mention certain products as a part of a particular article you are writing, but giving the product maximum exposure with a review will produce the best results in the long run. Additionally, you can make a lot of money with affiliate marketing with your subscribers list, which leads us to the next option.

What is affiliate marketing in greater detail:

4. Building a List of Subscribers

Another way of monetizing a blog is through a subscriber’s list. Who are subscribers and how to get them? Subscribers are visitors of your blog who subscribe to your daily/weekly/monthly newsletter or any other services you choose to provide. They are the ones who trust you will provide them with quality and helpful advice in the future and they choose to stay up to date with your content.

The best way to build a huge list of subscribers is by offering them something for free such as free tips, free products, or free e-Books. Make sure you actually provide high quality material so that they will benefit from it. That will make them feel compelled to subscribe and will greatly increase the rate at which visitors convert into subscribers.

So, once you have a lot of subscribers, send them occasional product recommendation for which you will be paid a commission. What a great work-free way of monetizing a blog.

5. Sell Your Own Products or Services

If you have a product of your own, regardless if it is a physical or a digital product, you should monetize your blog by selling your products on it. If you have some great information to share, combine them into an e-Book and sell them through your blog. Moreover, you may want to offer particular services to your visitors and make money on a recurring monthly basis.

Those 5 ways to monetize your blog should be all you need to turn your visitors into a substantial amount of recurring income. Know that there are no limitations when it comes to making money with a blog, so use your imagination and you might just come up with a new idea.
